On May 15, the new Chicago franchise of the Women's Professional Soceer(WPS) league introduced Emma Hayes of the Arsenal Ladies as the teams first coach. WPS games are scheduled to begin in April of 2009. General Manager Marcia McDermott said Hayes has the experience, passion and the knowledge to be a great leader.
Since 2006, Hayes has served as the first team assistant coach and academy director at the FA's Women's Premier League with the top-ranked Arsenal Ladies Football Club in London, England. She has helped the team to an undeafted league record and won every competition England has to offer. "We will create an enviroment that will make players want to play here. I expect to have an active role in Chicago's soceer community, which will be a central part of what we are doing," said Hayes.
Hayes also said her team will be built for a high paced techinical game and score lots of goals. She wants to put this league and this team on the map of the world's best.
